Sewn : Lace Sleeves Crop Top

Thursday, February 4, 2016

I recently ordered a bunch of scrap lace off Etsy so I decided to make a crop top!

The lace is gorgeous I think, I wish I knew where to find it by the yard. I got it from Leanimal's shop because I think she's freaking amazing and absolutely love all the fabric she uses. I'm sure the original stuff costs a lot though.

I drafted the pattern using a basic sloper, but I was really just trying to recreate this shirt so maybe I should have just traced that pattern. I get nervous doing that though.. but the fit generally turned out the way I wanted.

The length is bugging me but I think that's because I'm used to seeing shorter cut crop tops and, that's not happening. haha

The bodice fabric I used is satin/polyester I think (?) from Joann's.

Of course it's white (sensing a theme here? haha) and I love it! I'm sure I'll wear it all the time.

Bodice Fabric: Ivory Satin from Joann's
Pattern: Drafted

    1. Isn't she amazing?? I seriously swoon over everything she makes. Did you see her silver/white beaded dresses she just did for her Winter 2016 show? They were seriously AMAZING, you have to check them out if you didn't get the chance.
Thanks by the way for the sweet comment Laura :)

    1. Honestly it wasn't bad at all! Though I confess that I actually prefer being cold over being hot so maybe that's a part of it. :) Thanks so much Suzanne! You're so sweet to comment.

  6. I love the lace! I bought a really short all-lace crop top a year or two ago to wear over a tank top. It dressed down the lace a lot but I still liked it. One day though, I saw someone else wearing it alone as a shirt. I don’t mean this was a lace overlay on a thin material or anything, just a piece of lace sewn into a shirt. It was not a good sight lol.

    1. Emily what a huge compliment! Thank you so much. How are you liking that class? I honestly loved it, I feel like I learned so much. What are you guys working on right now? I think when I was in it we made PJ's, a skirt, a shirt, and then a choose your own project? Is that still what they're doing? I'd love to hear what you're making!

  10. Beautiful top, Haylee. I think the length is perfect and I can't believe you can draft a pattern from a sloper and not go crazy. I think it's tedious to do that and you did a fantastic job. Beautiful work.
